At Purdue University, the Distinguished Alumni Award represents the very best of what the veterinary profession has to offer: leadership, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to improving animal health. It is no surprise to those of us at Elanco that Dr. Jennifer Miller, Medical Strategy Lead – US Dermatology, is among this year’s honorees. Her contributions, both within our organization and across the broader veterinary community, exemplify the spirit of this prestigious recognition.
It is easy to see why Jen has received this honor. Her efforts, inside and outside of Elanco, have consistently contributed to the advancement of veterinary medicine and the well-being of pets. She brings a rare combination of technical excellence and genuine empathy to her work, ensuring that every innovation ultimately serves a greater purpose: strengthening the human-animal bond.
Throughout her time at Elanco, Jen has been deeply involved in some of our most complex and medically differentiated projects. What sets her apart is not only her scientific expertise, but her ability to translate that expertise into meaningful value for veterinary professionals and pet owners. She has an intuitive understanding of the challenges our customers face in clinical practice and uses that perspective to guide decision-making. This balance, rigorous science paired with real-world application, has made her an invaluable leader within our medical strategy team.
Jen’s connection to what truly matters in our profession is evident in every aspect of her work. She understands the profound role veterinarians play in the lives of pet owners and recognizes the responsibility we have to support them with solutions that are both innovative and practical. Her work consistently reflects a deep appreciation for the impact our products can have, not just on animal health, but on the emotional connections that define the human-animal bond.
One of the most defining moments of Jen’s recent contributions was her leadership during the launch of Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody (CPMA, now known as Trutect™). As a relatively new member of the medical strategy team at the time, she stepped into a highly visible role that required engagement with a wide range of audiences, from general practitioners and key opinion leaders to senior executives and millions of pet owners. In every setting, she demonstrated remarkable poise, clarity, and enthusiasm.

What stood out most during this launch was Jen’s ability to communicate both the science and the significance of the product. She conveyed complex information with precision, while also expressing genuine excitement about what it could mean for pets and their families. Her mastery of the details, combined with her authentic passion, resonated with everyone who had the opportunity to hear her speak. It is no exaggeration to say that she elevated the entire launch through her leadership.
More recently, Jen has taken on medical responsibilities for Zenrelia™ (ilunocitinib tablets) and Befrena™ (tirnovetmab) as our dermatology portfolio expands. In these roles, she continues to build on her strengths, applying deep scientific knowledge to the everyday realities of veterinary practice. She has an exceptional ability to anticipate the questions and concerns of practitioners and address them in a way that is both clear and compelling. This approach not only supports product adoption but also reinforces trust with our customers.
Her contributions extend beyond individual products. Jen plays a critical role in shaping how we think about and communicate the value of our broader portfolio. By grounding her work in the needs of veterinarians and pet owners, she ensures that our strategies remain relevant, effective, and aligned with our mission.
On a personal level, Jen is an incredible colleague and a trusted advisor. She brings focus, integrity, and thoughtfulness to every interaction. I know I can rely on her to prioritize what matters most, to our business, to our customers, and to the animals we serve. Her empathy for patients is not just a professional attribute; it is a defining characteristic of who she is. It shows up in her decisions, her collaborations, and her unwavering commitment to doing what is right.
Recognition from Purdue University is a reflection of Jen’s outstanding achievements, but for those of us who work alongside her, it simply confirms what we already know. She is a leader who elevates everyone around her, a scientist who bridges innovation with impact, and a veterinarian who never loses sight of the lives behind the medicine.
We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved honor and even prouder to have Jen as part of the Elanco team.
