Shanghai (15 October, 2014) – Feeding the world is one of the biggest challenges that we are facing in the coming decades. In the next few decades, the global population will reach nine billion people, and more than three billion are expected to enter the middle class. With this rapidly expanding middle class, there will be a 60 percent increase in demand for meat, eggs and milk. This means that we have to find a way to increase supply to meet demand and provide it sustainably.
Elanco is therefore proud to announce that it will be a major animal health partner of Nestlé China in its new Dairy Farming Institute (DFI) in Shuangcheng. A team of Elanco dairy cow specialists will work together with Nestle to train the new generation of Chinese dairy farm managers. They will also work to develop and implement the best animal health and farm management systems for China.
China is one of the fastest growing dairy markets in the world, and it will continue to grow in the next decades. As one of the largest animal health companies in the world, Elanco Animal Health is strongly committed to be a partner to China to help develop its dairy industry to enable production of enough milk at the best quality, while taking best care of dairy cows and the environment.
Alberto Riva, Country Director for Elanco China comments: “Elanco is very committed to partnering with China and Nestle on its Food Safety and Food Security mission. We aim to assist China in moving closer to self-sufficiency in terms of safe production of milk through innovations tailored to the Chinese dairy market.”
Elanco is committed to developing and marketing animal health technologies that allow the production of more animal sourced food in a more sustainable way. Elanco also believes in sharing its global knowledge and expertise with Chinese dairy farmers, in the area of animal health management, through the Nestle DFI.
“The team at Elanco China and the global Elanco dairy team are passionate about this opportunity to work with Nestle China, the Chinese government and other partners to ensure a safe and sustainable future for milk production in China”, Riva adds.
