To be able to help thousands of customers, animals and people around the world, Elanco relies on the smooth-running of its operational services, writes Andzelika Zarudzka, general manager of the Elanco Solutions Centres (ESC) in Poland and Malaysia.
I like to compare the role of our ESCs at Elanco to the engine on a boat: we need to keep all the parts well-oiled so we can continue sailing.
That’s because our ESCs are responsible for looking after the shared services across the organisation by handling of specific operational tasks, such as accounting, human resources, payroll, IT and treasury, to name a few.
I challenge anyone to describe these processes as ‘unexciting’; every day we help look after and guide colleagues in their careers across the world, trouble-shoot administrative issues to make day-to-day processes seamless (so our customers have more time to care for animal health), and vitally, ensure everyone gets paid!
Together, the ESCs – located in Warsaw, Poland and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – serve our global operations across different time zones. They are tasked with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reimagine every aspect of Elanco and create processes, procedures and systems from the ground up. Such changes could truly transform the way Elanco operates for the better, and there’s never been a more exciting time in my career.
Established just last year, our ESC location in Warsaw is a natural home, not just for its proximity to customers and employees in Europe, Middle East, and Africa but because Poland stands out as a European economic growth champion. In fact, since 1989, it has recorded some of the highest growth rates in the EU.
Poland’s reputation for talent hasn’t disappointed and our outstanding team of some 250 dedicated professionals are already reinventing how we serve Elanco customers and employees.
A culture of inclusion and diversity is critical to achieving our goals and a principle that has guided recruitment to the new ESCs.
As our Kuala Lumpur ESC becomes fully operational from January 1, 2021, it will be a vital step on Elanco’s journey to becoming a fully independent, dedicated animal health company.
These two global ESCs develop efficient and cost-effective business services, enhancing our focus on our colleagues and our customers, whether they’re veterinarians, farmers or pet owners – anyone committed to helping animals stay healthy and free from illness.
Because that’s the bigger picture here. Elanco’s ambition is to be a global animal health leader, and we’re committed to addressing some of the most challenging societal issues we face, including malnutrition and obesity, social isolation and anxiety, and environmental sustainability. I’m proud to be part of the crew navigating the waters to reach that destination because although we cannot direct the wind, we can adjust the sails.
