Rediscovering the Power of Healthy Animals

Food and companionship enriching life. It’s our vision, our mission, our motto and our slogan.

I am going to let you in on a secret. To the Elanco team, it means we are in the business of ensuring the health and well-being of animals – from cats to cows. We believe in a world where healthier animals are the key to helping us unlock today’s most critical global challenges.Healthier animals can help us solve problems like malnourishment, anxiety and resource scarcity.

I know you are asking yourself how animals can solve global issues? It sounds abstract at first, but when breaking down global issues, at their core they are related to physical health, mental health and environmental health.

Join me on a journey with experts from our organization and the industry as we explore how animals are the x-factor in our world. They are that missing piece of the puzzle – the game-changing variable – that will unlock solutions to seemingly disconnected issues.

As an animal welfare expert and technical consultant for Elanco, I will take you behind-the-scenes as we talk to industry experts on our Rediscovering the Power of Healthy Animals podcast. From nutritionists and psychologists to veterinarians and farmers, we’ll examine the incredible impact animals have on our world – specifically our physical health, our mental health and health of our environment.

Our first guest on the podcast is Jeff Simmons, President and CEO of Elanco. He’s passionate about how we can rediscover the power of healthy animals. Here are a few soundbites from our first episode:

“Our civilization is more advanced than ever before. We have the technology - the science - to solve a lot of these global challenges, but we haven’t made a lasting impact. Consider these issues:

More than 10 percent of our global population today suffers from malnourishment from what we call hidden hunger. People aren’t getting the right food.

Social isolation and anxiety are at an all-time high globally. 1 in 5 millennials express loneliness despite being the most interconnected generation through the Internet.

Our environment continues to deteriorate. Last year, we used up resources 1.75 times faster than the global ecosystem can replenish them.

We believe animals are that x-factor. Healthy animals can help unlock these seemingly disconnected issues of physical, mental, and environmental health. Healthier animals can make an immediate impact. We see that whether this is an emotional connection we have with our dog or the critical element that I believe protein plays, meat, milk, eggs, fish, to our diet and to our existence. Animals are the differentiator to life.”
